capital punishment ?

To me, a punishment serves the following purposes:

• Consolation for the victim

• Negative feedback mechanism for the criminal

• Threat to prevent future brutality

• Symbolize the existence a safe society

If this is the purpose of a punishment I think it's fair for the common good to take whatever step is required to ensure a safe living environment.

This idea of a common good for the greatest number weighing higher than the pains of one individual is fairly intuitive. It borrows from Jeremy Bentham's idea of Utilitarianism. Utilitarianism is criticised for not giving the individual the specific honor it deserves by putting the common good over everything else. I myself do not subscribe to this idea of justice. I think it's very simple and the real world is not; Justice definitely isn’t. Also, I think it sums up all pleasures and sorrows like it were chocolates or bricks. Real people with real feelings can't be summed up like that. Plus, I don’t think choosing the existence of one person's pleasure over prevention of another person's pain can come anywhere close to being called ‘ JUST ‘. If we could ever measure pain and pleasure accurately, in unit terms, I am sure in no way would pleasure in any way surpass pain. The value and intensity of pain will always be much more.

There are a lot of approaches to understanding justice and the dispersion of it. to mention a few - Utilitarianism, libertarianism, Aristotle's’ teleological approach, Rawls theory of justice, Kant's categorical http://imperative. As far as I understand justice , I don’t think there is a one size fits all solution to suspend justice. Different problems need to be tackled in different ways. I think the utilitarianism approach it best because in a way it honors Kant’s and Aristotle’s approach too. There is a difference between higher and lower pleasures and a difference between higher and lower people.

I think there are a few mistakes that do not deserve to be forgiven. There is a line of being human; being at least to a certain degree humanitarian and the ones who do not honor their human selves do not deserve to be treated as humans. Such punishments are fitting for the worst crimes.
